Eligibility Requirements
Work Experience
- At least 1 year of continuous, paid, full-time work (or equivalent part-time).
- Experience in a skilled occupation classified under NOC 0, A, or B.
- Must be within the last 10 years.
Language Proficiency
- Must meet the minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels depending on your stream.
- English → IELTS General Training, CELPIP General.
- French → TEF Canada, TCF Canada.
- Equivalency is required → Only valid, approved test results are accepted.
Education
- Canadian high school diploma or higher, or
- Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming foreign education equivalency.
Proof of Funds
- Required unless you have a valid job offer or are already legally working in Canada.
Admissibility
- You must not be inadmissible to Canada for medical, criminal, or security reasons.
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)
Express Entry candidates are ranked using the CRS, which awards points in several categories:
- Human Capital Factors → Age, education, language skills, Canadian work experience (up to 500 points).
- Skill Transferability → Combination of foreign work experience, education, and language skills (up to 100 points).
- Provincial Nomination → +600 points.
- Arranged Employment → 50–200 points depending on NOC level.
Express Entry candidates are ranked using the CRS, which awards points in several categories:
Required Documents
- Valid passport or travel document
- Language test results
- Educational Credential Assessment (if educated outside Canada)
- Proof of work experience (reference letters, contracts, pay slips)
- Police clearance certificates
- Medical exam results
- Proof of settlement funds (unless exempt)
- Job offer letter (if applicable)
- Provincial nomination certificate (if applicable)
Application Process
- Check your eligibility – Confirm you qualify under FSWP, FSTP, or CEC.
- Prepare documents – Language results, ECA, proof of funds, etc.
- Create Express Entry Profile – Enter the candidate pool.
- CRS Ranking – Your score determines your ranking among other candidates.
- ITA (Invitation to Apply) – If selected, you have 60 days to submit your complete PR application.
- PR Application Processing – On average, ~6 months, depending on case complexity.

- Job Bank Registration – Recommended for candidates without a job offer, to increase visibility with Canadian employers and possibly improve CRS points.
- Profile Updates – You can add new education, certifications, or better language results anytime during the 12 months your profile is active.
