Eligibility to Sponsor
Be 18 Years of Age or Older.
- Must be legally married to you
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Can be of either sex
Be One of the Following
- A Canadian citizen, A permanent resident of Canada.
- A person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.

Meet Quebec’s Conditions (if applicable)
- If you live in Quebec, you must also meet additional conditions and sign an “undertaking” with the province after being approved as a sponsor.

You can sponsor an orphaned sibling or close relative if:
- They are related to you by blood or adoption.
- Both their parents have passed away.
- They are under 18 years old.
- They are single (not married or in a common-law or conjugal relationship).

You may sponsor one relative if:
- You have no living relative you could sponsor instead (such as a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, child, parent, grandparent, or orphaned sibling).
- You do not have any other relative (such as an aunt or uncle) who is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian under the Indian Act.
